INAUGURAL MEETING OF THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE OF HTGS OLD STUDENT’S ASSOCIATION HELD ON SATURDAY,
3RD MARCH 2001 AT THE RESIDENCE OF THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT, ENGR. A. O. EMOKPAE, AT AIRPORT ROAD WARRI
Attendance:
(1) Engr. A. O. Emokpae - National President
(2) Engr. Joe Onyegun - National Vice President
(3) Mr. Oje Aferhuan
- National General
Secretary
(4) Dr. Enuma A. Bazuaye - National Publicity Secretary
(5) Mr. David George
- Chairman Warri Branch.
The meeting opened at about 1.30 p.m.
with an opening prayer by David George and a welcome address by National President.
Thereafter several issues were discussed as follows:
(1) The National
Constitution is to be reviewed to make it more realistic to the present day situation.
On the basis of this, it was agreed that:
(a) All members
through the Branches are now to pay a monthly subscription of N200 each and Membership fee is also to be raised to N200 each. 60% of the monthly subscription and membership fee is to be retained by the Branches
while 40% is contributed to the National purse.
(b) On the doctrine
of a National officer or his/her spouse, each member from the Branches shall pay a levy of a minimum amount of N500 towards
the burial.
(2) On the Principal’s
address during the AGM of 10th Feb. 2001, it was agreed that plans should be finalized to build an Auditorium for
the school to be named after the old students Association. To this end, Engr.
Oyegun was directed to source for an architect either from members or from outside to give us a design and the bill of quantities
for the proposed auditorium. All other issues raised by the Principal are to
be addressed through the assistance of State Governments, Local Governments, Important Personalities etc.
(3) Formulation of Branches: The meeting observed the poor commitment of old student towards the Association. It was therefore agreed that Branches are to be encouraged improve on drive for new
members to strengthen the Branches while new Branches are also to be set up in different areas where it is known that some
members exist. For example, a letter was written to Ekpoma to advise them to
set up a Branch and invite the National body to inaugurate them. This letter
was taken down to Ekpoma by the National Treasurer, Dr. Ezekiel Idinkon, reason which made him to be absent from the inaugural
meeting.
(4) To further improve
on the membership of the Association, a National Directory of all old students to be developed. Therefore, Branches and members are to be advised to provide names and addresses of all members and any
known ex-student even though is not presently a member. This will be achieved
through the year sets of members.
(5) It was observed
that the last Executive left no money in the purse of the Association and as such the Association presently has no money to
operate. Infact some members are presently being owed such as the National President
N800:00 for his accommodation for one night in Sabo during the AGM and the National Genera Secretary N500:00 for transporting
the cartons containing the properties of the National body handed over to the Principal at Sabo by the last Executive.
The meeting ended at about 3.30 p.m.
